Slovakia and Thailand: Opportunities for Cooperation in Critical Infrastructure Protection
The development of trade relations between Slovakia and Thailand could open up new opportunities in cybersecurity, critical infrastructure protection and supply chain diversification. For the Critical Infrastructure Association of the Slovak Republic (AKI SR), it is important that the development of international technology partnerships is accompanied by a strong focus on security.

Bangkok, 12 October 2026
The Slovak-Thai Business Forum, opened in Bangkok by Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Juraj Blanár, brought together 16 Slovak companies and institutions and approximately 70 Thai partners. Key topics included energy, digital technologies and cybersecurity. The forum was also attended by Stella Bulejková, Executive Director of the AKI SR, and Michaela Abel, Chief Operating Officer of Decent Cybersecurity s.r.o., one of the founding members of the Association.
The development of trade and technology relations is also important from a critical infrastructure protection perspective. Energy, transport and other critical sectors are increasingly dependent on foreign technologies, software and supply chains. International partnerships therefore offer not only business opportunities but also highlight the need to address the security of technologies, suppliers and digital systems.
Facilitating Trade and Investment
Slovakia and Thailand are negotiating a bilateral double taxation avoidance agreement and an investment protection agreement. At the European Union level, negotiations on an EU–Thailand free trade agreement are also ongoing. Their aim is to facilitate economic relations, reduce trade barriers and create more favourable conditions for investment.
For companies operating in strategic sectors, a more predictable business environment can be an important prerequisite for developing cooperation and diversifying suppliers.
Technology Security as an Integral Part of Partnerships
Both Slovakia and Thailand face risks that can disrupt the provision of essential services. Although their geographical and climatic conditions differ, natural events, supply disruptions and cyber incidents can affect energy, transport and supply systems in either country.
As global digitalisation continues to accelerate, protecting industrial control systems, assessing supply chain security and preparing for emerging technological threats are becoming increasingly important. These challenges also include future requirements for post-quantum cryptography.
For the AKI SR participation in international professional and business events provides an opportunity to monitor developments in technology and security solutions that strengthen critical infrastructure resilience, while identifying potential areas of cooperation that could benefit its members.
The development of Slovak-Thai relations therefore offers an opportunity to align shared interests with a strong focus on technology security and the continuity of essential services on which the day-to-day functioning of modern society depends.
