Košice, October 28, 2025 — The Critical Infrastructure Association of the Slovak Republic (AKI SR) welcomes the signing of a memorandum of cooperation in the field of soft target protection between the Technical University in Košice (TUKE) and the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic.

This is an important step towards systematically increasing the security of public institutions and strengthening the resilience of critical infrastructure in Slovakia.

The ceremonial signing was personally attended by the Minister of Interior of the Slovak Republic Matúš Šutaj Eštok, together with the university leadership and representatives of AKI SR, which was actively represented at the event by its members.

Security of soft targets as part of critical infrastructure protection

During the event, TUKE leadership presented the results of a comprehensive security audit carried out for the university by Decent Cybersecurity  s. r. o., a founding member of AKI SR.

The audit assessed the level of physical, technical and organizational security of the university and provided specific recommendations for increasing resilience against soft target attacks. The university has already begun implementing several of these recommendations in practice.

"The issue of soft target protection is among the most pressing challenges of today. Our goal is to strengthen the preparedness of public institutions, including universities, for new types of security threats," stated Minister of Interior of the Slovak Republic Matúš Šutaj Eštok.

AKI SR: An example of good cooperation between public and private sectors

AKI SR perceives this project as an exemplary example of cooperation between public, academic and private sectors in increasing the resilience of institutions against both physical and cyber threats. The project also confirms the importance of a systematic approach to soft target protection as an integral part of overall critical infrastructure security.

"Increasing the resilience of soft targets requires coordination between the state, academia and industry. This project shows that Slovakia has the professional potential and institutional background for creating comprehensive security solutions," stated Tibor Straka, president of AKI SR.

AKI SR supports initiatives focused on the protection of public institutions

The Critical Infrastructure Association of the Slovak Republic has long supported projects and initiatives that contribute to strengthening the security and resilience of public institutions, industrial facilities and universities.

Members of AKI SR actively participate in expert audits, risk analyses, training and consultations in the field of soft target protection and critical infrastructure.
